Migrate to the Garden State - New Jersey 2002

This is dedicated to the stars of the CTCI International Convention and Concours d'Elegance - the 1955, 1956, & 1957 Thunderbirds! The following is not a complete listing of the CTCI Concours Rules. It is merely a summary of some of the key points.

General Rules

  • Only 1955, 1956, & 1957 Thunderbirds owned by a CTCI member in good standing may be entered in the Concours and Touring Divisions.
  • All years of Thunderbirds may be entered in the Display Division, provided they are owned by a CTCI member in good standing. They will not be judged or eligible for awards.
  • All cars must be registered to the entrant.
  • All owners must attend the Judges & Owners Meeting or you will be disqualified.
  • All Thunderbirds entered must have a Fire Extinguisher -- or they will be disqualified.
  • All Driven cars in the Touring Division, and Concours Driven Classes must be driven to and from the event. Anyone trailering or towing a car entered in a Driven class will be disqualified.

Concours Division

In addition to being divided by year, the Concours Division includes the following sub-divisions/classes:
  • Within each year there are two sub-divisions: Original and Non-Original.
  • Within each sub-division there are two classes: Primary and Senior.
  • Within each class there are three sub-classes: Trailered, Driven with Undercarriage Judged, and Driven with Undercarriage Not Judged.
When entering the Concours Division, you must select one category in each of the sub-divisions/classes.

Original Sub-Division: A 300 point system is used to judge the Original Sub-Division. In this system up to 50 points may be awarded for authenticity. The remaining 250 points are awarded for workmanship.
Non-Original Sub-Division: A 250 point system is used to judge the Non-Original Sub-Division. Cars are judged on workmanship only, authenticity is not judged.

Primary Class: All cars must compete in the Primary Class except those cars that have been previously elevated to the Senior Class at a CTCI Sanctioned Regional or International event.
Senior Class: To be elevated to the Senior Class a car must win a Gold Award, scoring a minimum of 275 points in the Original Sub-Division, or 229 points in the Non-Original Sub-Division. To be elevated to Senior Class the undercarriage of the car must be judged.

Trailered Sub-Class (Concours I): All Trailered cars will have the Undercarriage judged. Gold Medallion and Excellence in Authenticity awards (see below) are available.
Driven With Undercarriage Judged Sub-Class (Concours I): All cars must be driven to and from the event. Bonus points will be given based on the miles driven. Gold Medallion and Excellence in Authenticity awards (see below) are available.
Driven With Undercarriage Not Judged Sub-Class (Concours II): All cars must be driven to and from the event. Bonus points will be given based on the miles driven. Gold Medallion and Excellence in Authenticity awards (see below) are not available, and car cannot be elevated to Senior Class.

Excellence In Authenticity: To further promote authentic restorations, all Original Sub-Division cars scoring 290 points or above will be checked by the Authenticity Panel for 50 authentic parts (exact reproductions are accepted). This is not a deduct system and it will not change the standing of the car as judged. If the car is correct in these applicable items, it will receive an additional "Excellence In Authenticity" award. Multiple awards may be given.

Touring Division

All Touring Division cars must be driven to and from the event. The Touring Division includes the following sub-divisions:
  • Touring Class: A car that is regularly driven and is not restored to Concours condition. The Touring Class will be sub-divided by year.
  • Senior Touring Class: A car that has been previously elevated to the Senior Class at a CTCI Sanctioned Regional or International event. Owners are now driving these cars and do not wish to compete in the Concours Division. The Senior Touring Class may be sub-divided by year based on the number of entries.
  • Expanded Touring Class: A car that is freshly restored or a frame-off restoration that the owner drives, and does not wish to compete in the Concours Division. The Expanded Touring Class may be sub-divided by year based on the number of entries.
All classes of Touring Division cars will be judged by the same rules. Cars are judged on workmanship only, authenticity is not judged. Judging will be conducted with hoods, trunk, and doors closed and windows up. Judges will inspect the interior by looking through the windows to check the condition of the interior and glass. Undercarriages will not be judged. Judging sheets will not be returned to the entrants.

Bonus points will be given to all Touring Division cars that participate in the "Patriot's Poker" Driving Event.

Touring Division Awards

Within each Touring Class there are three awards - First Place, Second Place, & Third Place. The Chief Touring Judge will ensure that all ties are broken.

Display Division

All Display Division cars will be displayed on the Concours field and will have night time security. Cars will not be judged.

All years of Thunderbirds may be entered in the Display Division, provided they are owned by a CTCI member in good standing.

Best Original Unrestored

This is for a car that has not been repainted and has had only minor restoration of components. A car entered for this award may be judged in a Concours or Touring Division, but it is not required. Display Division cars may be judged for Best Original Unrestored.

Cars will be judged for originality/authenticity, cleanliness, appearance and wear in the following areas: Exterior Body & Paint, Interior, Top, Engine Compartment, Undercarriage, Glass, Chrome & Stainless, Wheels Tires & Hubcaps, and Trunk. Scoring is on a scale of 1 to 5 points in each category. Cars must attain a minimum score of 35 points to be eligible for this award.
