Migrate to the Garden State - New Jersey 2002

Welcome!

The 2002 CTCI International Convention was hosted by the New Jersey Open Road Thunderbird Club. "Migrate to the Garden State - New Jersey 2002" was held at the Parsippany Hilton in Parsippany, NJ from June 27th to July 2nd, 2002.

We had a terrific turnout of both people and Thunderbirds for the first International Convention held in Region 1! The final count was 326 Registrations and 647 people. All the CTCI Regions were represented, and there were members of 47 CTCI Chapters who attended the Convention. The Thunderbird lovers came from 34 states, plus internationally from Canada, England, and Germany.

Just over half of the registrations included one or more cars - with a total of 181 Thunderbirds that "Migrated" to the Garden State! The T-Birds came from 31 states, and were driven from 23 states -- with 11 coming coast-to-coast from California, Oregon, and Washington.

This was the first CTCI Convention where the Display division was open to all years of Thunderbirds (owned by CTCI members). The flock of 165 Little T-Birds was joined by 12 Baby Sisters (2002s), and 4 Big Sisters (1962s - 1966s).

The final tally of Classic T-Birds was 80 Concours, 51 Touring, and 34 Display. The breakdown of Little T-Birds by year was: 38 were 1955s, 44 were 1956s, and 83 were 1957s. Of the Concours cars, 39 were Original cars and 41 were Non-Original. 69 were Concours I cars (Trailered (38) or Driven (31) with the undercarriage judged) and 11 were Concours II cars (Driven with the undercarriage not judged). There were 47 Primary cars and 40 Senior cars (33 Concours plus 7 Touring).

Eighty percent of the T-Birds (143) did their part to help "Keep America Beautiful" while they were driven to the Convention. The trips ranged from 7 to 2,898 miles, and collectively they logged a total of 76,406 miles driven -- each way!

The caliber of the T-Birds at the Convention was evident in the results: There were 39 Gold Awards, with 19 of them also receiving CTCI "Gold Medallion" Awards, 3 qualified for CTCI's prestigious "Excellence In Authenticity" Award, and there were 10 Primary cars that were elevated to Senior Status!

The week was packed with a variety of activities. There was something for everybody -- whether they wanted to focus on the T-Birds, or get away from all the cleaning for a while... Everyone (even the Committee!) found some time to relax and have fun, visit with old friends, and make new ones as well!
